On The Road Dining: San Francisco

San Francisco is like New York in its crazy array of fantastic restaurants. There are the classic expense-account places - La Folie and Boulevard -  and the touristy spots such as The Stinky Rose and McCormick & Kuletos.  But for me the really fun spots are the places friends pick out because not only is the food good, but you can linger at your table and soak in a few extra minutes of catch-up time.

This has been the best part of my weekend here; great food in neighborhood locations made all the better by the company of long-time friends.

I've eaten REALLY well and probably too much.

But that's good news for you!  Today I want to pass along one find which locals name "the best breakfast in San Francisco," The Plow.

The quaint corner restaurant is in the Potrero Hill neighborhood and has a reputation for always having a line of people waiting for a table (note: PLAN on waiting!).  After you eat there, you'll understand why! What I immediately love about this place is the way every dish turns a traditional breakfast into something more.  The "soft scrambled" eggs come with wild nettles, mushroom, and goat cheese. The pancakes aren't your ordinary pancakes - they are made with lemon ricotta (Be still my heart!) and served with chicken apple sausage (The Plow breakfast).  SOOOO tasty! Then there's the shirred eggs made in a tomato cream sauce... Wow.  Just wow.   Of course, now I feel as if I need to start making shirred eggs at home. (Stand by for some recipe experiments!)And this is just the tip of the ol' iceberg in terms of exciting options on the menu.  Next time I'm going to try the Avocado Toast, or the house-made granola, or the savory oats, or....

I better be back to San Fran soon!!  Be sure to check out The Plow if you have the chance!
