Waiting not-so-patiently for football

"So please, be tolerant of those who describe a sporting moment as their best ever.We do not lack imagination, nor have we had sad and barren lives; it is just that real life is paler, duller, and contains less potential for unexpected delirium.” Nick Hornby

Since the first day of school is under our belt,  I'm officially ready for football.

Thursday, Friday night games? Yes please! Friday night lights? Certainly! Saturday games. Can. Not. Wait.

And yet 25 days will be all about waiting.

In truth, I have mixed emotions about this game.

I think the physical dangers of the sport are real. I cringe at the shadiness of the back-office deals. I wince at the over-the-top adoration of athletes.

Besides those real issues, I live in SEC land, yet my heart belongs to the Pac-12.

And still, I am most certainly a fan. I know because when this video came across my radar, it made me happy.

You shouldn't watch it if you don't love the game. You shouldn't watch it if you don't enjoy the rituals of team bonding. (In this case the team is prepping as though they are about the fight the Battle of Jericho.)

But if you do, you'll appreciate the care this filmmaker took in honoring the boys from Trona High School.  To quote Digg.com, "It makes Friday Night Lights look like a cakewalk."

I salute you!
