The List: Floataway Cafe

I am seeing the finish line with Creative Loafing's Best Dish list.  Only 15 items left. Whoa -- cue sad music!!

Who doesn't need inspiration to try new things?

Last week we hit Floataway Cafe for dinner.  This isn't a new spot, but since it's always a favorite, we saved it for one of our date night outings.  When you go to Floataway, you'll first notice the tucked-away location off of Zonolite (not far from Emory).  The industrial park seems like a strange place for a restaurant, but somehow the metal feel of the place works.

Inside the restaurant the textures soften with some pretty views which surprisingly do NOT give an industrial impression!

The dish on the list was the steak frites.  This gorgeous piece of hanger steak is grilled over wood with a garlic sauce that makes it absolutely delectable!  The smokiness of the wood was noticeable, but subtle enough not to be a distraction.

Deeeeelish.

Completely list worthy!I would also highly recommend the ricotta gnocchi which comes in a pork ragu.  Good grief this was fabulous! I may like it even more than the 2011 list entry, the squid ink spaghetti!  For starters we had two dishes: edamame and carpaccio.  They were solid, but didn't compare to previous favorites, the blue crab fritter or the octopus.  Still, the menu has LOTS of dishes worthy of exploring!

Go and experiment -- you are in good hands at Floataway Cafe!
