Dining Out: Tacos Don Chente

Today's restaurant recommendations is far flung, as in Oxnard, California far. Still, I cannot overstate how much I love, love, love this little hole-in-the-wall Mexican food restaurant.  If you ever drive up (or down) the coast of California, you absolutely have to make a stop at Tacos Don Chente.

I mean, don't you HAVE to love a place whose subtitle is Picoso y Caliente (Hot & Spicy)? But the vibes only got better.  The first sight I saw was to my right where I found sign #1 of a fabulous meal: a fresh, homemade salsa bar.

Note the piles of pickled carrots, and the peppers...can you say LEGIT?!!Even a quick gander at the menu tells you this place is something special: huaraches, sopas, soups, aquas frescas.  I barely knew where to begin. Then I noticed they were making homemade sopas and they were $1.00 each.

One. Dollar.

Don't mind if I do.  I ordered the pork. Oh my were these great! The rest of the meal was equally fantastic, a chorizo taco, ceviche, and tapatio to spare. I topped it all off with a watermelon aqua fresca and was left utterly satisfied.

So. So. Great.
