Dining Out: Gypsy Kitchen

If you love sample eating and enjoy Spanish food, chances are you're a fan of tapas restaurants.  If you don't love experimenting, or you find small dishes annoyingly, well, small, then you should skip this trend altogether. In Atlanta Barcelona is a favorite tapas place, so I was excited when Gypsy Kitchen arrived a little closer to home in Buckhead Atlanta.

First and foremost, the atmosphere at this place is SUPER fun. There's indoor and outdoor seating and an amazing patio for ordering drinks and hanging out.  Definitely a fun scene.

In terms of food, everything was tasty enough, but few dishes stood out as truly memorable. We wandered around the menu without many leads from friends or reviews, so our sample dishes may not be the best the restaurant has to offer.

Still, we found a few winners. For instance, the toast.

I know, how exciting can toast be? Well, if you've ever been to Spain, you'll recognize the picture below because it's one of the more traditional toasts, Tomato Fresco.  This slice of deliciousness is simply prepared with tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and sea salt.

I LOVE it!

On the other hand, the Roasted Mushroom Caps were decidedly average as they were swimming in the parsley sauce.

The Lamb Kefta, my favorite dish of the night, was a Moroccan dish served with a beautifully poached egg. Yum.

The shrimp was fine, but not fantastic.

Then there was Billy's favorite, the Spanish octopus which was traditional and SUPER tasty.

We also tried the Marcona Chicken Marsala and LOVED the Marsala part (in the bowl), but found the bread to be only ok. After dinner we wandered around Buckhead, enjoying a gorgeous evening and eventually making our way back to Buckhead Atlanta for dessert at The Shake Shack which, obviously, was a win!So while the food was a little uneven, overall, the experience was terrific.  If you decide to hit this spot, I'd recommend making an ordering plan in advance by asking people what they liked most.  Chances are you'll find more than enough to enjoy!
