Life has more than its share of moments when we stare at an opportunity and say, “Wouldn’t it be cool if…”
Then the phone rings, the light changes, the meeting starts, or the alarm goes off…and we snap out of it, shake off the thought, and move back into life’s routines.
Too often, we fail to realize that the missing ingredient between “what could be cool” and “what IS cool” is the simple commitment, elbow grease, and perseverance to just make it happen.
I don’t know what your audacious idea would be. For each person, it is different.
“Wouldn’t it be cool to…
- take a safari in Africa?”
- know how to ride a unicycle?
- weigh your ideal weight?
- be fluent in sign language?
- raise llamas?
- climb Mount Kilimanjaro?
- start a business?
For all the dreamy, far-flung ideas that eventually become reality, one element is universal to them all. Someone wasn’t satisfied with leaving the idea as an idea. That person fielded the thought, smiled, and then said, “Let’s do it.” After that, all of the stuff that make ideas happen, happened. Then, awesomeness was born.
I thought about this process as I watched the video below. I imagine a couple of friends stood at the base of this land bridge and said, “Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a rope swing there?” Then, someone wasn’t comfortable with that idea dying as a mere thought.
What followed was pure awesomeness. Enjoy.
Notice how much people are smiling in this video. Some of them HAD to be afraid of making that jump, especially the first guy, but they are having a BALL! When great ideas become awesome reality, those involved smile and celebrate. They conquered their fears and executed an adventure.
Your turn. What idea are you “standing under”? What makes you think “wouldn’t it be cool if?” What stands in the way of you making the commitment to suck it up and to give the idea life?
Take the leap. You’ll be glad you did.
